Frequently Asked Questions

What’s a free consultation?

We offer a free 20-minute phone consultation for new clients. This is an opportunity to determine if we would be a good fit for one another and to ask/answer any questions you might have.

What if we find during the consultation that we are just not a good fit for one another?

Sometimes during consultation, you or I determine that we are not a good fit for one another. That is completely fine and okay. Rapport is the number one thing I want for my client. Most of the time it is because either you feel we are not a good fit based on what you are looking for, or I feel that we are not based on my level of expertise and what you are looking for. If that is the case either way, I am happy to send you some referrals to help you continue on your personal journey.

Do I have to do Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to see you?

No! You never have to do anything you do not want to do. ART is just one of the techniques that we specialize in to help you. I am more than happy to work with you using other modalities of therapy.

What to expect before our first session?

Before you first visit, you will be sent a link to the client portal through Simple Practice. Through the client portal, you can cancel & book appointments, see invoices, sign up for reminders for appointments (sent 24 hours before appointment time via text, 48 hours before via email), send secure messages and fill out paperwork before your first session. All of the paperwork sent to you must be completed before we meet.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is all about getting to know you better, gathering background information, personal history, and identifying your goals for treatment. This is called the “diagnostic assessment.” This initial meeting is traditionally more structured, as I have a lot questions to ask. You’ll have an opportunity to ask your own questions and schedule your next appointment during this time.

How often will I need to go to therapy?

The frequency of appointments depends on many factors. You and I can talk about this more when developing a treatment plan together in our first session.

The more work you do outside of the counseling office, the more likely you are to find symptom relief.

What are reasons that people choose to just pay for their sessions “out-of-pocket instead of using their personal insurance?

Many insurance companies have stipulations in regards to the frequency, type of treatment and length of time you can be in a session. By not using your insurance benefits, you and I get to work together to create the best treatment plan for you based on your goals. Together we would determine the frequency of your sessions, the length of time for your session, and the best form of therapy that best matches your needs. Another benefit to not working with insurance is that your records are not shared with a 3rd party. There are exceptions to this in special circumstance that we can talk about at any time.

How do I navigate the out-of-network reimbursement process?

Austin Resolution Therapy, PLLC is in network with Optum/United Healthcare insurance. We are not in-network with any other insurance providers but we can offer you a receipt called a super bill. You can submit this to your insurance company for reimbursement. Some insurance will cover all or part of the cost.

I suggest you check in with your insurance about coverage for therapy. Try asking the following questions:

  • Do I have coverage for therapy services?

  • Does my insurance cover out-of-network therapist providers? If so, at what rate (ask specifically about rates for an LCSW or LPC provider)?

  • Do I have an annual deductible? If so, how much of that have I met?

You may also be able to use funds in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for psychotherapy. Check with your company’s HR department about starting or using an FSA.

I have also partnered with Reimbursify to help you with the reimbursement/Superbill process. Instead of submitting the Superbill to your insurance company, Reimbursify handles that process for you from start to finish. The first claim you submit is free to file, and then further claims submitted are charged a small fee. To learn more about Reimbursify here.

Do we have to live in same state in order to receive therapy support? Can I have sessions when I travel?

The answer to this is yes and no. Every counseling/therapy license is different in each state and the requirements. Below you will see the states both Casey and Kristi are currently licensed in. These are the states in which we are licensed. You must be physically in the state of where we are licensed to see us virtually. Please contact us if you have any questions in regards to this.

Casey is currently only licensed in Texas and Florida.

Kristi is currently licensed in Texas and Massachusetts.

For virtual sessions, what kind of internet service do I need?

Basically if you can stream, then most likely you can do video sessions online. It is best to NOT use free wifi in a public sessions because that allows your device(s) and our communication online less secure. When doing virtual sessions, it best to use a computer. Tablets and phones may also be used.

What do I do if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

We ask that you give at least 24 hours notice if you are going to reschedule or cancel your appointment. If you fail to do so, you will be charged the full session rate for you allocated time. Email, text, and voice reminders are sent out 48 hours in advance to help with this process. If an emergency arises, please contact us and we will discuss next steps.

Do you write ESA letters, do short term disability or FMLA paperwork?

We do not provide ESA, short term, or FMLA paperwork.
